POSITION SUMMARY
The Cafe Program Supervisor is part of the Housing and Homeless Engagement Services team at Inspiration Corporation. The Cafe Program Supervisor oversees the Cafe and connected Homeless Engagement Services, including front of house cafe space, volunteer engagement and other supports for those experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The Cafe Program Supervisor is responsible for reporting on meals and other services, supervising Cafe Coordinator and Cafe Program Coordinator position, serving on Leadership Team, supporting safety, compliance, facilities and training outcomes, upholding cafe polices and ensuring the cafe remains a safe environment. The Cafe Program Supervisor also supports Housing and Homeless Engagement resources, including participant support and referral partnerships and linkage agreements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate meal service in an atmosphere of dignity and respect Supervise Cafe Coordinators (and/or Cafe Program Coordinator).
  • Serve on Inspiration Corporation’s Leadership Team and participate in other team and staff meetings as appropriate.
  • Address and communicate all incidents to the Housing and Homeless Engagement Program Manager in a timely manner.
  • Arrange for appropriate training of assigned staff.
  • Ensure compliance for food sanitation, meals and other relevant reporting. Ensure appropriate data collection and reporting for meals and drop-in services and donations and volunteering to the Development staff.
  • Connect team members to appropriate training and safety resources. Ensure the proper set up and clean-up of the cafe space.
  • Maintain a positive, organized, and safe milieu during scheduled meals at the cafe. Ensure Mutual Agreements and House Rules are upheld during meals with fairness and consistency.
  • Greet, serve, and communicate with all participants professionally. Supervise, assist, and train volunteers.
  • Effectively address and resolve conflict between participants, staff and/or volunteers. Act in a professional manner at all times and maintain appropriate boundaries with participants, staff and volunteers.
  • Demonstrate openness and respect for cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of participants and co-workers.
  • Support in-kind donations through documentation, outreach, receiving or picking up as needed.
  • Contact emergency personnel for situations that require the assistance of fire, ambulance, police, or mental health emergency professionals.
  • Attend and participate in Cafe and Housing staff meetings and regular supervision with the Housing and Homeless Engagement Program Manager.
  • Attend and participate in mandatory trainings.
  • Report to work, meetings, training, and job-related activities prepared and as scheduled. Ensure the Meals Program Handbook is kept up to date.
  • Accept, record and store bagged lunches and donations as needed. Maintain sanitation standards for donated items.
  • Notify the Help Desk of equipment repair and maintenance issues.
  • Support agency partnerships and other resources through organizing linkage agreements, supporting Housing Stability Fund access, Aftercare activities, training and events for participants and staff, etc. as needed.
  • Staff or Support staffing of extended hours during extreme weather when needed

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: 2-3 years of experience working in a customer service, food service and/or social service setting. Experience working with persons experiencing or at risk of homelessness. English-language proficiency to communicate with volunteers, staff and meals guests, write meal order tickets and serve meals required. Bilingual Spanish preferred. Experience in a work environment supported by volunteer services, knowledge of mental health first aid, crisis prevention/de-escalation, motivational interviewing and other best practices is preferred. A valid Chicago Food & Sanitation License, First Aid and ServSafe Manager’s certification, within three months of position start date is required (training provided).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is regularly required to stand. The employee must regularly mop and lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position will work directly with participants, volunteers and staff. A typical shift starts at 5:00a.m. and concludes at 1:00p.m. on all weekdays including holidays (i.e. 6.a.m – 9a.m. with flex time available). Work shifts will be determined by management. Attends evening, weekend, and early morning meetings and functions as required.
